PALAZZO TERZI
Located on the western spur of the Bergamo Alta hill, Palazzo Terzi dominates the small square of the same name near the imposing building of the Liceo Classico.
The building, of sixteenth-century origin, has undergone expansions and modifications which have been very well assimilated thanks to the decisive intervention of the architect Filippo Alessandri who in the eighteenth century redesigned the facade and adjacent spaces, making it one of the most important Baroque palaces in Lombardy.
Since there were no other interventions in the following centuries aimed at distorting the taste of the time, Palazzo Terzi presents itself as a residence
where centuries seem not to have passed.
The visitor is welcomed into the Reception Hall dominated by a monumental fireplace; the curious scenographic setting of Barbello’s seventeenth-century frescoes, Storer’s works and the sobriety of the furnishings complete the enchantment.
TORRE DELLA MERIDIANA
The building dates back to the 12th century and was born as a high stone tower which underwent many changes over time.
From the entrance on the main street of Città Alta you go up stairs with a view from the arches, thus starting to learn about the history of the tower house but also of the city.
The top two floors can be visited from the inside and are still the residence of the owners of the tower today. Furniture, paintings and furnishings from the past will bring to life the long history spent within these walls, telling a lot about the character of Bergamo and the family that has lived there for many generations.
CASTELLO DI VALVERDE
The origins of the Valverde Castle are very ancient: the first traces of its existence date back to the 10th century, when the Poliachi (or Poyacum) Castle was located right in the center of the city.
They date back to the 10th century, when the Castello dei Poliachi (or Poyacum) was located right in the center of Vico Fabriciano, the original nucleus of the village of San Lorenzo.
Later the Valverde Castle became the Avogadri Castle, as can be deduced from some sixteenth-century documents.
Its dominant site, suitable for a castle, proved perfect for a “villa” (country residence) which could enjoy a panoramic view from there.
In fact, a plaque testifies to the last change, which occurred in 1585 when the Venetian captain Paolo Loredan completed the work to transform the fortification into his country residence.
The current building retains the sixteenth-century quadrangular plan which was obtained by adapting the previous structures. Its plan is quite similar to the one that can be seen in an ancient photo from 1626.
Later the original quadrangular plan was equipped with some rustic annexes.
Located in the hilly and green area surrounding the Venetian Walls, the Valverde Castle, together with its park, is considered one of the most remarkable landscaped places in the Bergamo hills: from here you can enjoy a splendid view of the Upper Town. from the inside and are still the residence of the owners of the tower today. Furniture, paintings and furnishings from the past will bring to life the long history spent within these walls, telling a lot about the character of Bergamo and the family that has lived there for many generations.
