To get to know Bergamo you have to go up, wander around the narrow winding streets, on the pavements, to discover one by one the small squares, the crossroads, the barred windows, the ivy, the shadow, the pictorial glimpses that give life to every corner and a sense of humanity to the stone, to the rough-hewn stone, to the corroded plaster, to the washed-out colours, until suddenly flowing into the enchantment of Piazza Vecchia, the civic tower, the staircase that goes up in the corner and the loggia; and, beyond, from under the arches of Palazzo della Ragione, finally emerging to the complete beauty of the adjacent churches, to the glory of Colleoni.

HILL

Upper Bergamo is among the twenty cities in the world nestled on seven hills.

Surrounded by greenery, it offers the view alternating landscapes and glimpses of natural and architectural beauty of value and historical relevance.

Beautiful walks outside the walls, ladders and paths accessible to everyone to discover an area that fascinates in every season and takes you away from city traffic.

WALLS

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Venetian walls of Bergamo date back to the 16th century and are subsequent to the first city walls, the Roman and medieval ones.

The six kilometer perimeter of the walls is a splendid walk to admire panoramic views of the surrounding plain and mountains between bastions, sentry boxes and powder magazines.

The sunsets from the ramparts are unmissable.

OLD TOWN

Rising from a Celtic village, Bergamo Alta saw the settlement of the Romans, Lombards, Franks, Viscontis and the Serenissima over the centuries.

In the medieval era it consolidated its urban fabric, becoming a jewel of towers, alleys, squares and glimpses of great charm.

CORSAROLA

Baptized “The Mile of Beauty”, the Corsarola winds through the historic center.

It is the beating heart of the upper city and hosts monuments, squares, shops, bars and clubs.
